Chick-Fil-A sells meal kits?! Yes, I had the same reaction. I mean, why would you make a meal offered by a fast food chain…when you could have a meal ready immediately from said chain? But then I saw the sign for the brand’s lemony-kale twist on chicken parmesan (something you won’t find on restaurant menus), and I decided to give it a try.

What It Costs (and What You Get):

At $15 for a complete meal for two, it’s roughly the same price as two Chick-Fil-A combos. But what you’re getting tastes far more gourmet than the typical chicken sandwich and waffle fries. The Chicken Parmesan Meal Kit came with fresh chopped kale, tomatoes, a lemon, pasta, warm fried chicken breasts, cheese, tomato sauce and a creamy garlic sauce.

How Chick-Fil-A’s Meal Kit Compares to a Hello Fresh or Blue Apron Meal:

Chick-Fil-A‘s kit handles a lot more of the prep work than any other meal kit I’ve tried. The pasta was already cooked, as was the chicken, and the kale was chopped. So really, all you’re doing is halving the tomatoes, juicing the lemon, and heating and assembling the dish. The package says it takes 25 minutes to make, but it seemed like it was ready in closer to 20.

Many of the Hello Fresh and Blue Apron meals I’ve tried seem to take longer than the time frames listed—and pretty much all of them take somewhere between 25 minutes and an hour, with 40 minutes being about the norm. There’s a lot more variety with Hello Fresh and Blue Apron, considering Chick-Fil-A offers just the one meal, but still, if you’re waiting in the drive thru at Chick-Fil-A, do you really want to go home and cook dinner? Or should you just order a combo and dig in?

The Verdict:

The chicken parmesan is loaded with flavor, but it doesn’t feel heavy (despite being topped with cheese and fried chicken). There’s minimal mess and cleanup, and it’s affordable. It’s unlike anything else you can order from the Chick-Fil-A menu, so if you’re feeling burned out by their sandwiches and salads but are still craving that sweet-yet-savory fried chicken, it’s a nice weeknight dinner alternative that feels somewhat virtuous.
