I know what you’re thinking: Brussels Sprouts are the foul, tiny cabbage-like roughage every cartoon rails against from the moment you’re old enough to sit through an entire episode of Looney Tunes. You’re conditioned not to like them, and there’s no way, no how you’re going to start eating them now. I’ve felt the same way — until I tried them charred and roasted.
When they’re browned and crispy on the edges, with withered, curled leaves, the flavor and texture changes completely. They’re crunchy, not mushy, and the cabbage-y flavor is replaced with a richer, smokier one. Especially when they’re cooked with crumbled bacon, but that’s not for today’s post.
Air Frying Brussels Sprouts Takes 1/3 the Time of Traditional Roasting.
After seeing the light, my only hangup with them is the cook time. When you get home late and you’re feeling hangry, waiting 30 minutes for sprouts to roast can feel like eternity. There had to be a faster way — one that didn’t involve sacrificing flavor and going the boiled route (blecch).
Nate came up with the idea to throw them in the Air Fryer, and in 8 minutes, they were crisped to perfection. The typical Air Fryer basket makes just enough to serve 2-3 people, so you may want to splurge on a family-size model, or cook in batches, if you’ve got a big crowd.

Ingredients
- 1/2 lb Brussels Sprouts
- 1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
- salt
- pepper
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
Instructions
- Preheat Air Fryer to 390 degrees F, or 400, if your fryer has that temperature setting (mine only does 360 or 390).
- As it warms up, wash, dry, and halve Brussels sprouts. Toss in a mixing bowl with olive oil, salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
- Place in AirFryer in a single layer. If you have a grill grate that lets you cook two layers of food at once, use that to cook more sprouts at a time.
- Cook for 8-9 minutes, or until the edges have crisped and browned, and the sprout is fork-tender.
