Think card and board games are just for kids? Pssh. We may have given up Candyland years ago, but we’ll never grow tired of these games. (Honestly — even the haughtiest, I-don’t-have-fun-at-parties types can’t resist them.)

1. Wits & Wagers

This game combines trivia with gambling, only you don’t have to be the most fact-savvy in the group to win (phew) and there’s no real money on the line, so you’re not stuck eating ramen and begging your landlord to let you keep your apartment if you’re really, really awful at guessing the correct answers.

Essentially, the group is asked a trivia question, everybody writes an answer on a mini dry-erase board, and then bets on whose answer is correct. (H/T to Lyndsey and Alex for introducing us to this one!)

Wits & Wagers, $19

2. Monopoly Deal

Imagine a fast-paced version of Monopoly–seriously, it only takes 15-20 minutes per game–that resulted in people laughing rather than flipping a table. This is that game. (Huge thanks to Griffin and Valerie for sharing this game with us!)

Monopoly Deal, $5

3. Catchphrase

It’s like Taboo and hot potato: You’re given a word, and you have to describe it and get your teammates to say said word before the timer runs out. When your team correctly guesses the word, you pass it to the next team. Chaos ensues. And you learn how many people think Flipper is a seal and Dallas is the capital of Texas.

Catchphrase, $22

4. Telestrations

Not to sound like a broken record, but the easiest way to describe this one is by fusing together two existing games you know and love: Pictionary and Telephone. Everyone gets a dry-erase booklet and their own secret word. They draw the word, pass the booklet to the person to their left (or right, your call), and that person has 30 seconds to jot down what he/she thinks it is, before passing the booklet to the next person in the circle. That person can only see the guessed answer, and he/she must draw that answer. This process continues until everyone has drawn and guessed — and you won’t believe how far-off (and completely off the walls) the images get as they get reinterpreted over and over again.

Telestrations, $18

5. King of Tokyo

Who hasn’t dreamed of getting their Godzilla on?! You get to choose monsters, roll dice and duke it out with one another to rule Japan.

King of Tokyo, $26
