If you’ve heard of Gideon’s Bakehouse in Orlando, you’ve heard about the chocolate chip-studded cookies. You’ve debated which flavors to order (one of each?), studied the menu and rankings, maybe even bought a slice of cake (great call).

But amid the rave reviews and collectible art, there’s one thing I rarely hear people talk about—and it deserves just as much attention as the Banana Bread Chocolate Chip: The Peanut Butter Cold Brew. It’s only available at the Gideon’s Disney Springs location, but if you stop by, it’s a must-order.

Why?

It’s nothing like a cold brew you can order anywhere else (though, once word gets out, expect copycats). There’s a rich, peanutty flavor, but it doesn’t overpower the coffee itself, and while you get a roasted espresso flavor, a light pour of oat milk tempers any bitterness, and maple syrup adds a dash of sweetness.

It’s shockingly well-balanced, likely due to the exactness of the recipe—you cannot get it modified. As a black cold brew drinker, I had serious reservations about this; most of the time, I find any dash of oat milk or creamer to be too much. I can’t stand an iced coffee or cold brew that tastes more like milk than coffee; it’s even worse if it’s pure syrup.

Normally, I sip cold brew over the course of a few hours. Gideon’s Peanut Butter Cold Brew? I downed the whole thing in minutes. I barely had two bites of my beloved Banana Bread Chocolate Chip before it was gone. It was that good.

Next time you visit, you’ve got to try it. Then let me know what you think. I may be biased (Full disclosure: Gideon’s is one of my favorite bakeries of all time), but I was fully prepared to dismiss this. After all, I’d avoided ordering it for more than two years, simply because I was convinced it’d be gritty, too sweet or just…meh. Thankfully, it exceeded all expectations, and I’m already dreaming of my next visit.

Just the Facts: Gideon’s Peanut Butter Cold Brew

  • What It Is: The brand’s signature Oat Milk Cold Brew infused with a “dark-roasted peanut blend” from a Georgia peanut farm, sweetened with maple syrup
  • Texture: Totally smooth, with a clean finish; there’s some dustiness, at first, due to the cocoa powder on top, but I didn’t mind. The PB isn’t gritty at all.
  • Flavor: nutty, roasted flavor that gives way to a lightly caramelized coffee taste (almost like a nutty, brown sugar espresso vibe)
  • How Sweet Is It? Medium sweetness, like a sweetened iced latte (not nearly as intense as, say, their cookies)
  • How Bitter? Not at all, thanks to the oat milk & sweetener
  • One size available (about 16 oz, I’d say?)
  • Gluten-free? Yes
  • Vegan? Yes
  • Cost: $6

We combine our smooth Oat Milk Cold Brew with a unique dark roasted peanut blend from our favorite Georgia Peanut Farm. Sweetened with maple syrup, this Cold Brew is Vegan & Gluten Free!
