I’ll admit it, I am a huge fan of a well-timed motivational quote. Sure, I might not post a ‘hang in there’ kitten on my wall (largely on account of my extreme allergies to cats and that the mere sight may cause a sneezing frenzy), but I am all about that perfect quote that will inspire at the very moment it is needed most. There is something about those little snippets of advice that just fire me up and help to put everything into perspective.
A few days ago, I was staring down a mighty to-do list and felt that I needed a little inspiration to get the job done. My director recently asked me to oversee a few big initiatives at work which I am super thankful for and humbled by… and also a smidge intimidated by if I am to be honest with myself (and, well… you). It was one of the first really gorgeous days of the spring in NYC, and so I decided to take a little stroll in midtown to mentally work through everything I needed to tackle.
I came across a construction site while on my walk (construction in NYC… crazy and unexpected, right?) and was encouraged by some art (graffiti?) on the side of one of the barriers.
YOU ARE MORE POWERFUL THAN YOU THINK -De La Vega
This was one of those moments that combined two of my favorite things — inspiring quotes and street art — and it was a great example of one of those well-timed inspirations that keeps me going and brightens my outlook. This painted sign reminded me that I didn’t need to be intimidated by what was on my plate, I just needed to grab my fork and dive right in.
What signs (literal or otherwise) have you experienced recently that have helped you to change your perspective?
We’d love it if you would share your signs of inspirations with us on Twitter or Instagram.
(Who knows, we might even end up printing it and putting it on our wall!)
