Want to keep your kids busy for five minutes while you get breakfast on the table this Halloween? Bring out the Jack O’ Lantern marshmallow milk. What’s Jack O’ Lantern marshmallow milk, you ask? Great question, since I totally made it up after seeing people create Marshmallow Creme ghost ciders on TikTok.
While I’m demoing this on a trendy lil’ glass can, if you’re making this for kids, clear plastic cups are your BFF. That way, if a cup is dropped, no harm, no foul. I recommend adding the orange Marshmallow Creme circles to the inside of the cup yourself, then handing the cup to your kid with a dry erase marker and letting them go to town, decorating their pumpkins as they see fit.
Ready to whip some up yourself? Let’s do this.
How to Make Jack O’ Lantern Marshmallow Milk
Makes 2 cups to decorate
You’ll Need:
- 2 tablespoons Marshmallow Creme
- Orange gel food coloring
- Clear plastic cups
- Dry erase marker(s), ideally fine tip
- Chocolate milk (or the drink of your choice)
Directions:
- In a small bowl, combine about 2 tablespoons of Marshmallow Creme with 2-3 drops of orange gel food coloring. Stir, adding additional drops until you’ve gotten the shade you like.
- Use the back of a spoon to spread a very thin coating of the orange Marshmallow Creme in a circle on the inside of the cup. (If you slather it on thickly, it will start to run.) You can add as many pumpkin circles as you’d like, or just opt for one giant one along the side, to make life easier on yourself.
- Use a dry erase marker to decorate those pumpkins as you see fit, then fill with chocolate milk (or regular milk, a milkshake, cold brew, Dr. Pepper—whatever you’re into) and enjoy.
Your Marshmallow Milk FAQ’s, Answered:
What Does Marshmallow Milk Taste Like?
The Marshmallow Creme very gradually dissolves into the chocolate milk. At first, you can’t taste it, but if you let it fully dissolve, you’ll start to get a slight, marshmallow-y taste to the chocolate milk, kind of like a chilled hot cocoa.
Do the Dry Erase Markers Make a Mess?
As you touch the cup, you’ll start to rub off the faces, sure. But even if you do, you can easily wipe your fingers clean on a napkin. Or just stick to one pumpkin on one side of the cup, so you know where to avoid touching it.
