Why Am I So Obsessed with Kate Hudson’s “Rumpled Chic” Clothing Line?!

Though I’ve been thisclose to ordering a pair of Fabletics leggings over the past few years, I’ve always been a little bummed that Kate Hudson‘s foray into fashion was an athleisure line. Leggings are great and all, but this is the actress who brought back boho in the early aughts with her turn as Penny Lane in Almost Famous. She’s just as well known for her hippie roots as she is her rom coms, so it’s ABOUT TIME the star launched a clothing line that reflected her style.

Happy x Nature debuted this week, full of flowy dresses, worn-in denim, and blousy tops meant for wearing while walking through fields of wildflowers. Okay, so I might not be anywhere near a super bloom, but I can certainly channel that vibe as I hang onto a crusty rail as a man sweating through his parka coughs on me during my morning subway commute. Boho style is really just a state of mind, right?

All of the clothes have that effortlessly cool look Hudson’s known for, focusing on cotton and linen, and other fabrics known for conveying a relaxed vibe. In fact, one dress is described as being “rumpled chic,” which is the excuse I will use forevermore when I’m too lazy to bust out an iron before getting dressed (so basically, every day).

I tried to understand why I found myself so drawn to this new line: Is it because it’s like Free People, only (somewhat) cheaper? Is it because those lifestyle shots seem so carefree that I’m dreaming of being there myself? Is it because Kate Hudson’s such an infectiously positive individual that I’m hoping that by buying her stuff I’ll become a little more charming too?! It’s probably some mix of all of the above, honestly (now THAT’s marketing!), in addition to genuinely liking the cut and style of the clothes themselves.

Clothes start at $48, with the dresses — my fave part of the collection, to be honest — hovering around $98. It’s not cheap, but it’s also not Goop expensive. And, the promise of free shipping and a 10% discount for signing up for the newsletter has me tempted. Very, very tempted — especially when it comes to the Solar and Serene dresses. My willpower may not be that strong (see: how quickly I devour any batch of cookies I make), but I am outstandingly cheap, so we’ll see which impulse wins out.
