Guys, I finally made it. No, I didn’t make any “30 Under 30” lists (too old for that now, anyway) or win any awards—I was sent Popeyes’ chicken sandwich. As in, the sandwich that launched actual fights in-store. That people waited 45 minutes and longer to try. That probably overjoyed franchise owners and horrified hourly employees (have you seen the rage in people’s eyes when they heard the sandwich was out of stock?!).

DoorDash sent a Popeyes lunch to my office to promote that they’re giving away the sandwich for free until Jan. 19, as long as users order through DoorDash using the code “CHICKENWINNER.” And that’s when I got my hands on The Sandwich.

And honestly? It was delicious. Worth getting into a fistfight, or waiting 45 minutes? Um, no. Not at all. But it was a hearty slab of juicy, well-breaded chicken that didn’t get soggy despite its commute from restaurant to office, and sitting in a box for who knows how long before security alerted the office to its arrival.

The Popeyes Chicken Sandwich Pros:

  • Thick, crispy breading (the seasoning isn’t as good as Chick-Fil-A’s; more on par with Wendy’s, but with better breading)
  • 1-inch-thick, white meat chicken
  • Dill pickles covered the bottom bun
  • Buttered, grilled bun that didn’t turn to soggy mush mid-meal
  • Cajun-spiced mayo

Popeyes Cons:

  • Needed more Cajun-spiced mayo!
  • The buttered bread felt a bit too heavy/greasy

How Does It Compare to Other Fast Food Chicken Sammies?

Okay, since I know you’re dying to know, here’s my definitive ranking, as someone who downs entirely too much fast food on a weekly basis:

  1. Chick-Fil-A’s Chicken Sandwich (basic, but that breading…ugh)
  2. Publix Chicken Tenders Sub (toss those tenders with buffalo, and it might beat out C-F-A)
  3. Popeyes Chicken Sandwich
  4. Shake Shack (that Buttermilk Ranch sauce!)
  5. Wendy’s Homestyle Chicken Sandwich
  6. Burger King Chicken Sandwich (when you’re in the mood for a pressed patty, which…sometimes I am, okay?!)
  7. McDonald’s (though I prefer their crispy chicken wrap to their sammies, TBH)
