Target’s Getting in On the Beauty Box Game Too

Like many people, I rarely open retail email blasts, unless it’s the weeks leading up to Black Friday. But this one made me click the subject line before my brain could even fully register the subject line: New Beauty Box. Just $5.

It was from Target. Target?

We’ve covered all kinds of beauty boxes here before — and we’ve seen all kinds of brands enter this world — so naturally, I was immediately intrigued by Target’s promise: $19 worth of goodies in exchange for an Abe Lincoln. I can swing that.

By the time I clicked on the link, about four hours after the email hit my inbox, the boxes were completely sold out. D’oh!

I did some research, and it turns out Target has been selling beauty boxes about once per season, and they typically sell out within 24 hours, according to posts on MySubscriptionAddiction.com.

Target’s latest box features six of the company’s “fall favorites,” which include:

  • Jane Carter Revitalizing Leave-In Conditioner
  • Dove Quench Absolute Crème Serum (a frizz-tamer and curl-definer)
  • Colgate Optic White Platinum Express White Toothpaste
  • Aquaphor Healing Ointment (a cream for super-dry skin)
  • SheaMoisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil (an oil meant to restore color-treated hair)
  • Curls Créme Brule Whipped Curl Cream (another de-frizzing, curl-defining cream)

As you can see, this box is heavy on the haircare products, particularly those that cater to curly hair. If you’re more interested in makeup (or, like me, the only hint of a wave in your hair is the five seconds after you release your locks from a curling iron), you might be better off sticking with Birchbox or Ipsy.

You can check out the full details about the box on Target.com (and fervently click refresh to see if it comes back in stock, if you’re now kicking yourself for missing out).
