When we heard one couple has spent years perfecting their chocolate chip cookie recipe, two things immediately came to mind: First, respect. Second, when can we try it?!

Sara and Doug launched their cookie company, Taylor Chip, after doggedly pursuing their ideal cookie, growing from a single stand in 2018 to three locations (with a fourth in the works) and same-day shipping across the U.S. The shop generously offered to send us a sampler of several cookies so we could try them out firsthand.

Ahead, we’ll answer some of your biggest questions about the brand, as well as a breakdown of our favorite flavors. Let’s get into it.

What’s so Special About Taylor Chip Cookies?

Based out of Pennsylvania, Taylor Chip features nearly 30 types of cookies, each weighing 5.5 ounces. That may make you dismiss them as your typical giant cookie company, but what sets them apart is their focus on using local ingredients (not to mention recipes featuring butter instead of vegetable shortening).

How Many Flavors Does Taylor Chip Offer?

There are 24 flavors on the classic menu, with three only available to Cookie Club members (more on that in a sec). Varieties range from the traditional chocolate chip and snickerdoodle to nostalgic-inducing riffs, like peanut butter and jelly and birthday cake. You’ll also see seasonal additions, like pumpkin spice (a pumpkin puree-infused, cake-like cookie that’s rolled in pumpkin spice seasoning).

How Much Do Taylor Chip Cookies Cost?

Six cookies will set you back $50, while a dozen costs $69. The cost of shipping varies based on your location. (Getting a dozen from PA to NY, for example, will set you back $13.)

What Is the Taylor Chip Cookie Club?

The Taylor Chip Cookie Club is a subscription service that ships a dozen cookies to your door every month, with prices varying from $50 per month (if you subscribe for a year) to $60 (if you subscribe for three months at a time). You’ll gain access to members-only cookies, like the Kitchen Sink (which is loaded with coconut, almonds, pretzels and two types of chocolate), as well as free shipping on additional orders. You can join the club here.

Do They Offer Vegan Cookies?

Yes, Taylor Chip sells seven types of vegan cookies, ranging from classic sugar to brookie.

What About Gluten-Free Cookies?

Yes, you can snag gluten-free cookies as well! Six cookies fit the bill, including a chocolate chip variety that is both g-free and vegan.

What Do Taylor Chip Cookies Taste Like?

Taylor Chip cookies have more of a classic, homemade flavor than most of the competitors. They’re soft and chewy, and we’d definitely recommend following their reheating instructions for the most gooey, fresh-baked flavor. (Some flavors, such as M&M, can taste a bit gritty when eaten cold.)

That said, after sampling a dozen, our favorite flavors were…

  1. Chocolate Chip Biscuit — We actually preferred this to the classic chocolate chip cookie they offered. The biscuit style was thicker, with a more toothsome quality, solid chocolate chip distribution in every bite and great caramelization to the dough.
  2. S’mores — Nate’s favorite, this flavor came with a housemade marshmallow creme filling that reminded us of an oatmeal creme pie, only better. It was doughy with a light milk chocolate flavor, making it the closest-to-campfire-quality s’mores cookie we’ve ever tried.
  3. Brookie — It’s the best of both worlds: fudgy and doughy, loaded with chocolate and yet not so rich that you feel nauseous after a few bites (which can be the case with some brookies).
  4. Snickerdoodle — It’s the closest to eating gobs of cookie dough of the bunch, with a light (not overpowering) cinnamon sugar vibe.
  5. Peanut Butter Nutella — OK, so the bag gets a little greasy, but that’s because this treat uses real peanut butter, keeping it delightfully moist. The Nutella filling makes it taste like an inverse Reese’s Cup in cookie form (with a hint of hazelnut).

How Many Calories Are in Taylor Chip Cookies?

Most cookies range between 690 and 840 calories if you eat the entire thing, though one serving—which is about 230 to 280 calories—is technically a third of the treat.

How Does Taylor Chip Compare to Crumbl?

Oh, my Crumbl fiends, I knew you needed to know this. In my opinion, they’re better, but that’s because I prefer thicker, chewier cookies that are more on the rich side than the sugary-sweet side.
